Region I Premier League Girls Roundup; Parsippany Mischief Take Two Showdowns Vs. Region I Rivals

By Robert Ziegler, 04.04.2003.

Parsippany Mischief continued on with its winning ways in U15 South Region I Girls Premier League action.

The defending league champions picked up a pair of big wins, 4-2 over Bethesda Eclipse (the team it lost to in last summer’s Region I chamionship match) and 4-0 over PDA Wildcats (the team it lost to in last spring’s New Jersey State Cup.) While the team had already avenged both losses in other competitions, the wins are still meaningful for Parsippany Coach Domenic Bucci and his team.

“We went down to the Jefferson Cup (in Richmond) and were a little out of synch for those two games,” Bucci Said. “We’re starting to get back now to where we were last year. We practiced a lot indoors so we were prepared technically, but just getting outdoors is an adjustment and we’ve picked up three or four new players. The PDA game is a huge rivalry and the girls know each other very well. We just put it together in this match. They’re still a great team and we know they’ll come back at us strong.”

The teams may meet again as soon as Sunday, if both can advance to the finals of the PDA Tournament.

Against Bethesda, Allison Marcsisin got the Mischief started with an early goal. Christina Gomez made it 2-0. Marisa Stock’s penalty made it 3-1 and Brittani Bartok scored to push the score to 4-1, before Bethesda pulled one back. Against PDA, Gomez and Bartok each scored a pair of goals.

Yankee United Strong Out of the Blocks

In U15 Girls North action, Yankee United of Connecticut began league play with a flourish, beating Soaring Capital Quest 3-0,and Eastern New York side Clifton Park 1-0. Amanda Naeher scored twice on the weekend to lead the way, including the game-winner against Clifton Park. Allie Rago scored twice against Soaring Capital Quest, a Horseheads, NY club.

Yankee United Coach Jack Nogueira was pleased the team overcame some key injuries to claim the six points.

”When you’re playing in Region I you know the teams are going to be decent,” Nogueira said. “We did exactly what I wanted to do. Hopefully everybody will be read to play in our next league games April 1.”

Nogueira cited Charlotte Morris, Shana Bryan and twin sisters Maggie and Molly Costich with playing a key role in keeping the clean sheets.
